What is i-Net+ Certification?
i-Net+ Certification is designed to provide foundation-level competency in Internet, Intranet and Extranet technologies. The i-Net+ Certification provides fundamental technical knowledge required by entry-level Internet and e-commerce technical professionals. The Certification opens up a range of entry-level positions including Internet Site Designer, Internet e-Commerce Specialist, Internet Network Specialist, Internet Systems Administrator, or Internet Security Specialist.
The i-Net+ Certification is a vendor-neutral certification which offers an impartial perspective on the relevant technologies, something which cannot be said of all vendor-certified programs. Indeed, i-Net+ Certification has been designed and administered by a group of leading industry companies known as CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association Inc. The i-Net+ Certification is respected throughout the industry and provides tangible proof to employers that you have reached a professional standard. To achieve i-Net+ Certification you need to pass a single exam lasting 90 minutes and which comprises 74 questions. For each question, the examinee has a choice of four options from which the correct response or responses must be chosen. The exam test five different areas of knowledge, each area being known as a domain with its own percentage weighting:
- Internet Basics and Clients (30%). This domain tests the Internet fundamentals such as Internet infrastructure, site functionality, searching, caching and indexes. Candidates are also tested on the knowledge and skills needed to support the administration of Internet/Intranet sites and to use and update client software.
- Networking (20%). This domain includes the fundamental concepts of networking including the components at the core of the Internet infrastructure, problems with Internet connectivity, Internet logic diagrams, diagnostic tools for solving Internet problems, use of Internet and DNS domain names, the use and limitations of popular remote access protocols, the interrelationship between various protocols or services and the function of their corresponding server, the capabilities of application server providers, hardware and software connection devices, the ways in which sites are monitored.
- Development (20%). Topics tested in this domain include the definition of programming related terms, the distinction between popular client and server programming languages, how image and multimedia file formats are used, the creation of HTML pages, identification of the common formats for content delivery to wireless devices, use of popular tools to enable a Web server to database connection, testing of pre-production Web and e-Commerce servers.
- Internet Security (20%). This domain includes Internet security concepts such as how suspicious network activities are identified, intrusion detection methods, access-control security features for Internet servers, utilization of anti-virus software and client security add-ons, firewall protection of private networks, use of DMZ configurations, authentication/encryption technologies.
- Business Concepts (10%). This domain has at its core e-Business, e-Commerce and e-Business related network concepts, e-Business models, strategic marketing issues, legal/regulatory considerations such as copyrighting, trade marking and licensing issues.
